For the best panoramic view of the city, go to the Parador of Salamanca on the other side of the River Tormes. Popular with thousands of foreign students who come to Salamanca each year to study one of the Spanish language and culture courses offered by the University or one of the seemingly hundreds of academies, Salamanca is a cosmopolitan, lively city.

Handicrafts include a range of materials: silver, used in the local precious-metal and silver work (the emblem of Salamanca being the traditional ball-filigree charro button): leather, used by master craftsmen specializing in tooled Morocco, and saddle, harness and shoemakers to produce an array of products including the famed Spanish-style riding boot or boto; fabrics, used to weave shawls handmade lace work and the renowned Béjar cape; wood, used by joiners, master carpenters, woodworkers, carvers and coopers, and even in basketry and wickerwork; clay, for potters making earthenware and ceramics; and a long list of etceteras.
Parks in Salamanca
The Aldehuela Park
20 minutes away from the city centre you will find a big sports park.: The Aldehuela Park, where you can practice several kinds of sports, like football, basketball, rugby, tennis, etc. In the middle of June the public swimming pool opens.
The Aldehuela Park is the best place to have a nice day with your friends and family. Moreover you can easily go there by bus. You have to take the bus number 8 in the city centre, there is one every 20 minutes.
Huerto de Calixto y Melibea
You'll find this famous orchard in the old town, close to the Catedral Vieja (old cathedral) and the defensive walls. It's an oasis of lush vegetation and tranquilty in the midst of the city and is probably the place that inspired Fernando de Rojas to write his novel La Celestina. All manner of plants and trees grow here: olive trees, cypress trees, acacias and almonds.
The two wells that the character Melibea fetched water from to water the sweet-smelling herbs are still here today, and so are the herbs - bay leaves, rosemary and mint. It's worth taking a walk through here to enjoy the garden and the views of the two cathedrals and the majestic Torre del Gallo tower. Admission is free.
